Favorite holiday films and corny Christmas hoo-hah.

In this post: TCM holiday movie schedule.

Those of you who read the Howdygram regularly know I’m a big classic movie fan. I love the good ones, the cheesy ones and practically any genre you can think of except for chainsaws and gladiators. That said, December is a great time to watch TCM because I love holiday movies AND because they do a retrospective montage thing of all the famous faces who died that year. Click here to check out the montage on TCM’s website. (I tried to embed the video but it screwed up the rest of my post formatting.)

And now, here’s a list of my favorite upcoming holiday movies! (All times shown here are Central.)

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 15
The Bishop’s Wife (1947) at 1 p.m., starring Loretta Young, Cary Grant, David Niven.
The Thin Man (1934) at 5 p.m., starring William Powell, Myrna Loy.
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 17
Remember the Night (1940) at 8:45 p.m., starring Barbara Stanwyck, Fred MacMurray.
Bachelor Mother (1939) at 12:45 a.m., starring Ginger Rogers, David Niven.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 22
The Shop Around the Corner (1940) at 7 p.m., starring Margaret Sullavan, James Stewart.

MONDAY, DECEMBER 23
The Lemon Drop Kid (1951) at 1 p.m., starring Bob Hope.
Meet Me in St. Louis (1944) at 7 p.m., starring Judy Garland, Margaret O’Brien.

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 24
The Man Who Came to Dinner (1941) at 10:15 a.m., starring Bette Davis, Monty Woolley.
A Christmas Carol (1938) at 12:15 p.m., starring Reginald Owen, Gene Lockhart.
Christmas in Connecticut (1945) at 7 p.m., starring Barbara Stanwyck, Dennis Morgan.

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 25
     Ben-Hur (1959) at 9:30 a.m., starring Charlton Heston.

And just for fun — in case you need a break from all the corny Christmas hoo-hah — starting at 7 p.m. on the 25th there are four classic back-to-back Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers musicals: Top Hat (1935) at 7 p.m., Swing Time (1936) at 9 p.m., Shall We Dance (1937) at 11 p.m. and Carefree (1938) at 1 a.m. My personal favorites are Top Hat and Swing Time. Fred and Ginger appear at right.

Thank you.
