Remembering Kim Jong Il and his tyrannical “parka of destiny.”

Sleep deprivation has its moments. I woke up at 5 a.m. to start designing a new logo for Ovation Creative (in case you missed yesterday’s breaking news, I’m redesigning my website) and wound up instead writing this post for the Howdygram. I should probably go back to bed at some point but I’m sure I’ll be fine regardless because I’ve got TicTacs for energy and half a Marcytini.

It seems that North Koreans are preparing en masse to commemorate the first anniversary of Kim Jong Il’s death (read my original post) on December 19. A moving tribute yesterday by North Korea’s state radio station referred to the miserable tyrant as “a peerless sage of mankind, possessed with warm humanity, broad magnanimity and noble sense of moral obligation.” Seriously? North Koreans are starving to death! The announcer also included homage to the dead dictator’s beloved “threadbare and discolored” parka, describing it as “an incredible witness of history.” The announcer added: “His parka was that of a great father, with which he kept all the people on this land from snow, rain and cold.” Holy crap, man … it’s a jacket.

For your possible interest the Howdygram is pleased to post the following photos of hysterical historical significance from our North Korean News Desk.
Before I forget, today is Pearl Harbor Day and you should check out all the swell war movies on TCM, including They Were Expendable (1945) — my personal favorite — at 7:45 a.m. Central time starring John Wayne and Robert Montgomery.

I think I’ll head back to bed now and pester Sam. Thank you for reading this.
